DEHYDRATED LEMON KALE CHIPS RECIPE
Required Kitchen Equipment
Step 1: For this first step you'll want to completely rinse the kale under cool water. When rinsing the kale try not to smash it at all, as you want to keep it as crisp and fresh as possible. Once the kale is sterile, shake off the water and then wipe away any remaining water droplets with a cloth. Now that your kale is clean, go ahead and cut out the inner stalks from each leaf, as this portion of the plant is inedible. Finally you will want to cut the leaves into desired chip size pieces, preferably something as large as a traditional tortilla or potato chip.
2 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 Tablespoons of Fresh Lemon Juice
1/4 Teaspoon of Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
Step 2: For this second step you'll need to place your cut kale chip pieces into a mixing bowl. Moving along, take out a smaller mixing bowl and then pour into it the sea salt, extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon juice, and crushed red pepper flakes. Using a small metal whisk, rapidly stir up the ingredients within the second bowl until a consistent mixture forms. Drizzle the oil mixture over the top of your cut kale pieces. Next, manually toss and mix the kale chips using your clean bare hands. Continue the mixing process until each kale chip is nicely coated with the oil and seasonings. Do try not to crush the kale while mixing it, as you want the chips to remain rigid.
Step 3: For this third step in the creation process you'll want to set your seasoned and oiled kale chips on to your dehydrator trays. I would strongly advise you to avoid placing the kale chips on top of each other, as this will cause them to stick together. The chips should be lined out with minimal overlapping.
Step 4: Slide your kale chip lined food dehydrator trays into the device. Dehydrate the kale at 115 degrees F, or 46 degrees C for about 4 to 6 hours. Towards the fourth hour you will definitely want to take a peek on the chips just to make sure that they're not over drying. You will want your finished kale chips to be nice and crispy just like a more traditional potato chip. I also highly recommend eating some of the chips while they're still warm and fresh.
Storage: If properly stored, these great tasting dehydrated lemon kale chips will keep for up to 2 full weeks. Put the chips in an airtight container and then place them in a pantry or cabinet. You definitely don't want to store the kale chips in an area where they will get exposed to sunlight, as this will cause them to lose their freshness much more quickly.
