DEHYDRATED HEALTHY KALE CHIPS RECIPE
Required Kitchen Equipment
Step 1: Wash and rinse your fresh organic kale under cold running water. Before rinsing your kale I highly recommend spraying it with a completely natural plant based produce wash, as this will remove any potentially water resistant residue. Using a produce spray is completely optional. Next, dry your kale by shaking it over the sink and then wipe away any leftover water with a towel or cloth. Finally you will want to cut or manually shred your kale into chip size pieces. You only want to use the leafy part of the kale, so be sure to set aside the inner stalk portion of the plant as it's not edible.
2 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 Bunch of Fresh Organic Kale
1 Tablespoon of Fresh Lime Juice
Step 2: Place your organic kale chip pieces into a large mixing bowl. Next, take out a smaller mixing bowl and then pour into it the fresh lime juice, sea salt, and extra virgin olive oil. Using a metal whisk or spoon, rapidly stir the oil and seasoning mixture until it becomes completely uniform and consistent. Once done pour this mixture over the top of your kale chips. Moving along, manually toss and mix the kale chips up using sterile hands. Continue mixing until your chips are evenly coated in the oil. During the mixing phase you don't want to crush the kale or be too aggressive with it as this will cause it to wilt.
Step 3: Lay your oiled and seasoned kale chips on to your food dehydrator trays. You may need to use more than one tray. I don't recommend stacking the kale chips on top of each other as they will not only stick together during the drying phase, but they will also dry out unevenly. They can slightly overlap, but I wouldn't over do it.
Step 4: For the last step in the creation process you will want to slide your kale chip lined dehydrator trays into the appliance. Set the dehydrate temperature to 115 degrees F, or 46 degrees C. Your processing time should be approximately 4 to 6 hours. Check on the chips periodically during the drying phase just to make sure that they don't over dry. Once they're nice and crispy you can remove them from the dehydrator and serve them immediately.
Storage: These dehydrated healthy kale chips will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks if properly stored. I recommend keeping them in a sealed airtight vessel out of range of any direct sunlight. I usually store my kale chips in my pantry where they can stay crunchy at room temperature. Dehydrated kale chips will stay fresh a full week longer than baked kale chips.
Health Benefits: Dehydrated kale chips are one of the healthiest snack foods on earth. They contain an abundant amount of vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, niacin, riboflavin, manganese, copper, potassium, iron, calcium, and more. Combined with the vitamin C in the fresh lime juice and the healthy fat in the olive oil, this particular recipe is an anti-cancer and anti-heart disease powerhouse. Aside from the long term preventive health benefits, eating these kale chips will also immediately boost your immune system.
