Step 1: To get this recipe started please set your oven to a preheat temperature of 350 degrees F, or 175 degrees C.
1 Bunch of Fresh Kale
2 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
1 Teaspoon of Organic Maple Sugar
Ready In
25 Minutes
1/2 Teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon
1/3 Teaspoon of Sea Salt
Step 2: For the second step you'll need to rinse your fresh bunch of kale under cool running tap water. It's a great idea to spray your kale with an all natural citric acid based produce wash before rinsing it, as this ensures that any harmful bacteria on the plant will be immediately neutralized. Once your kale is totally clean you will want to use a paper towel to completely dry it. Your finished kale chips will taste a lot better if you dedicate the small portion of time needed to make sure that the kale doesn't have any water on it.
Step 3: Take out a large mixing bowl. Using a sharp knife cut out the middle kale leaf stalk as it's inedible. Next, tear, shred, or cut your cleaned fresh kale into small to large size chip like pieces. Kitchen scissors work extremely well at cutting the fresh kale. Place your prepared kale into the large mixing bowl that you took out earlier.
Step 4: Take out a small mixing bowl and a small size whisk. Pour into the bowl the called for extra virgin coconut oil, organic maple sugar, ground cinnamon, and sea salt. Stir these ingredients together using your whisk until the mixture is consistent and even.
Step 5: For this fifth step please slowly drizzle your coconut oil based mixture over the top of the kale pieces that you set aside earlier in the larger mixing bowl. Next, you'll want to mix and toss the kale using clean hands. Continue rubbing and mixing the kale by hand until each individual piece is lightly coated with the seasonings and oil. While you are mixing the ingredients together be sure not to crush your kale chips. Your kale should still be crisp and rigid upon completing this step, not soggy or wilted.
Step 6: Take out a baking or cookie sheet and line it with a disposable non-stick baking paper. Neatly arrange your oiled and seasoned kale chips out on the baking paper. When arranging the kale chips be sure not to stack them, otherwise they'll cook unevenly and stick together in one large clump. You want a nice even amount of space between your kale chips with only a minimal amount of overlap per piece.
Step 7: For the seventh and final step please slide your kale chips into the oven to bake at the preheat temperature for 10 to 15 minutes. When the edge of the chips becomes lightly browned and golden it is time to remove them from the oven. Do be extra careful not to overcook or burn your kale chips, as it's quite easy to do so. Let your kale chips cool down for a few minutes before serving them.
Storage: These sweet and crunchy baked cinnamon and sugar kale chips will stay fresh for a full week or longer. Pack them into a sealed airtight container and then store them in your pantry or cupboard at room temperature. Keep the kale chips in a dark place as direct sunlight will cause them to spoil much more quickly than usual.
Health Benefits: Baked cinnamon and sugar kale chips are ultra healthy for you. Cinnamon is proven to lower cholesterol, regulate blood sugar, prevent certain cancers from forming, prevent yeast infections, provide arthritis relief, and vastly improve long term brain health. Regarding the baked kale, it's absolutely loaded with cancer and heart disease fighting vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B6, and dietary fiber.
